Over 80 students from high schools across Greater Sudbury heard from a number of different experts today, for the 5th annual Courage To Stand Day.

The event is organized by the Sudbury Police Chief’s Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) and is meant to be a reminder to teens about tolerance, dignity and respect.

Police Chief Paul Pederson calls the 12-person panel instrumental in helping him understand issues important to young people in our community.

The conference began this morning with a proclamation from Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger.

One of the guest speakers was Rod Bazinet with the Child and Family Centre in Sudbury and says the day is really a partnership.

The event wrapped up early this afternoon.

The day is meant as a reminder to treat everyone with respect and dignity and to stand up for one’s beliefs.

This year’s theme was ‘Everyone has a Story’.
