With temperatures hovering in the 30 degree range, in the upper 30’s with the humidex, the forest fire hazard ranges from low to extreme.

As a result, Ministry of Natural Resources officials are urging people to be extremely careful with camp fires.

Sudbury M-N-R Information Officer Shayne McCool says there are precautions that can help avoid a disaster including staying with your fire and pouring water on to make sure it is out.

Lightning strikes have started a number of fires in the region, but McCool says human cause remains the number one reason.

A large forest fire near Halfway Lake Provincial Park was sparked by lightning and is now being held, but is still more than 23 hectares in size.
