Greater Sudbury Police are looking into a case where a bear was shot and killed in a residential neighbourhood, late Wednesday night.

The bear was found dead in a driveway on Rutherglen Crescent in New Sudbury Thursday morning.

Evidence shows the bear was shot then suffered, before it died.

Further investigation found neither the Ministry of Natural Resources, nor the police were called to help with the bear incident, plus Ministry recommendations were not followed on how to deal with a nuisance bear.

Humane dispatch of a bear by a resident should only happen when there is an immediate danger to public safety and no other option available.

Police looking into this incident say there is no evidence that was the case.
