Sudbury city council has filled the vacant seat left when Brian Bigger announced he would run for mayor of the city.

Council announced last night that Ron Foster wil become the new Auditor General for the City of Greater Sudbury, after an extensive nationwide search.

Foster is the former Auditor General of Oshawa where he ran into controversy by calling out one councillor. His contract was not renewed and Oshawa city council voted to axe the auditor general job altogether.

Sudbury Mayor and former Auditor General Brian Bigger says they knew about the situation, and that it comes with the territory.

The Auditor General reports to council and is responsible for assisting the council in holding itself and it’s administrators accountable for the spending of public funds and achieving value of money in municipal operations.

Bigger says they had plenty of candidates to choose from, and they narrowed it down to four, but in the end Foster’s experience won out.

Foster was also a senior manager at KPMG for eight years and is now just the third auditor general left in the province, the other two are in Ottawa and Toronto.

His contract begins on December 1st.
