Dynamic Earth will be under construction over the next six months, as the science centre works on renewing its visitors’ experience.

That will include the addition of a 1,500 square metre outdoor science park…just behind the Big Nickel.

Science North CEO Guy Labine says it’s just one part of a $3-million dollar renewal initiative at the tourist attraction.

The changes are expected to boost visitors to Dynamic Earth, as well as tourism in Sudbury.

Senior Manager Julie Moskalyk says some of the exhibits will incorporate historical aspects of the mining industry, while others will focus on earth sciences or geology.

She calls it an extension of the science centre.

Project Manager Brenda Kozial says this will include large-scale exhibits and science-themed interactive structures.

It will include things like a Slag slide, a climbing structure, a limestone cave, a sand pit, full-scale mining equipment, 3-D artwork, an amphitheatre, a human sundial and a wave machine.

The City of Greater Sudbury is investing $250,000 into the attraction…and expects it to help boost local tourism.

It should be ready for the public by next June.
