Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip kicked off their “Man Machine Poem” tour in Victoria on July 22nd, ending it in the band’s hometown of Kingston, Ontario. After 3-hours of music and 3 encores, as Gord said – putting them “officially into unchartered waters. We never do third ones”, Downie left the crowd with a simple, “thank you for that” and “Thank you for keeping me pushing, and keeping me pushing,”

With sparkly outfit changes and feathery hats, the entire nation was captivated by a Canadian legend who is suffering from terminal brain cancer.

The Hip played a bunch of fan favourites, including “New Orleans is Sinking”, “Nautical Disaster”, “Bobcaygeon|, finishing the show with “Ahead by a Century”.

Before the show even started, fans were treating the concert like a historical landmark moment in Canadian history, with the audience burst into a spontaneous rendition of Canada’s national anthem.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was even spotted in the crowd, rocking a Hip tshirt. Prior to the show, a photo of Trudeau embracing Downie went viral.

During the show, Downie took a moment to speak highly of Trudeau, but he also used that time as an opportunity to address Canada’s historical mistreatment of its Aboriginal and Indigenous people, urging the PM to “get ‘er done.” As the crowd roared in support, Downie then asked that they make sure Trudeau stays committed to that initiative and for them to hold him accountable.

“He’s going to take us where we need to go. And we’ve gotta be a country that’s going to take us 100 years to figure out what the hell went on up there. But it isn’t cool and everybody knows that. It’s really, really bad. We’re gonna figure it out.”

Here is an incredibly emotional moment from their show in Toronto

Despite Ryan Lochte’s apology via Instagram “for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning”, he and the three Olympic swimmers involved in the Rio robbery scandal might face even more punishment from the U.S. Olympic Committee. After stubbornly sticking to a now-debunked story that he and three U.S. swimming teammates were robbed at gunpoint by several men dressed as cops after a drunken night out in Rio, Brazilian police recommended that Lochte and teammate Jimmy Feigen be indicted for falsely reporting a crime, which is punishable by a fine or up to six months in prison.

These latest developments come after the other two swimmers involved, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz, were removed from their plane by Brazilian authorities and questioned. According to the AP, they admitted that Lochte lied about key details after an embarrassing incident that occurred around 6 a.m. at a Rio gas station, where Lochte and his cohorts broke a bathroom door (although TMZ says they just cracked a sign outside the bathroom) before agreeing to pay for the damage after a security guard brandished his gun. “It’s traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country…and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave,” Lochte noted in his Instagram post.

The AP reports that all the swimmers involved in the incident have now either left the country or are about to leave, with Feigen donating nearly $11,000 to a Brazilian charity in exchange for his freedom. (ReelWorld)

NEW Shawn Mendes Song called ‘Mercy’ From New Album ‘Illuminate’

“Mercy” is the fourth single from Mendes’ new album, which is set to release on Sept. 23, outlets reported Thursday. Mendes has previously released “Treat You Better,” “Three Empty Words” and “Ruin.”

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber is under fire after appearing hungover and lip syncing during his performance at England’s V Festival on Saturday night. According to The Sun, the 22-year-old told the crowd, “I’m a little hungover, I’m not gonna lie. You guys don’t like to fake anything in the U.K., which I respect.” Video from the concert shows a very lackluster Bieber spacing out as he sings “Cold Water” and admitting that he forgot the lyrics. Unimpressed fans took to Twitter afterward and slammed the pop star’s performance. “Justin Bieber was one of the worst performers I’ve ever seen life–miming 95 percent and terrible. Lazy, disappointing and insulting,” one wrote. Another commented, “I ain’t paid £80 for a ticket to his tour to listen to his CD and see him run around the stage.”
