Greater Sudbury Deputy Police Chief Al Lekun joined an elite group of police professionals today.

The 27-year veteran received an Order of Merit of the Police Forces from Governor-General David Johnston at Rideau Hall.

During his career, Lekun has volunteered in a number of community and youth development programs including the Joe MacDonald Youth Football League which he helped create in 1993.

He also coaches football at the high school level and is a rotary club member.
