Five local agencies are working together and with men in the community to improve their relationships with their children and families and put an end to domestic violence.

The 17 week program called Caring Dad is led by the United Way Sudbury and Nipissing District and will provide a combination of motivation, parent education and behavioural therapy as well as follow-ups with family to ensure progress is being made.

Carole Lamoureux with Sudbury Counselling Centre says the program will also give men signs to tell if it’s working.

John Rimore with the John Howard Society says it’s time for the community to realize how serious of a problem this is.

In each of the last two years there have been over two thousand domestic disturbance calls to Greater Sudbury Police.

Domestic Violence Coordinator with GSPS, Anita Hass says they believe the program will be successful even though it’s not mandatory.

Registration for the free program is through the John Howard Society which says 12 men have already signed up for the first session beginning next week.
