The city is looking into a year round Out of the Cold Shelter facility.

Obviously it would run under a different name, but the current facility at 200 Larch Street operates only in the cold months and just overnight.

This year the Out of the Cold Shelter will enter it’s third year of a four year agreement.

The city’s Coordinator of Shelters and Homelessness, Gail Spencer says if they could house a few other services like CMHA’s managed alcohol program under the same roof, they would look to keep the building open year round.

It would all depend on funding.

Last year Spencer estimates around 30 people slept at the shelter each night.
