A lost hiker in Onaping Falls called police right away and with the use of GPS tracking, officers where able to find the woman before dark.

Search and rescue & GPS trained Rural Officers used coordinates from the hikers cell phone to locate her in the bush 1.5 km away from HWY 144.

She was 10 metres away from the tracking coordinates.

The hiker was in good health with a fully charged cell phone, extra clothing and plenty of water but officers say she did the right thing by calling as soon as she felt lost.

The story was posted on the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Facebook page.
