Black history month kicked off this week in Canada, the U-S and United Kingdom…a time to celebrate the achievements of famous individuals who have had positive effects on black culture in all three countries.

Canada began observing it in 1995 after a motion from a Toronto area M-P was presented to the House of Commons.

Hockey and Canada go hand in hand, right.  So why do very few of us know who Angela James is?  Sportsnet recently wrote about this incredible role model who played for two decades at the highest level of women’s hockey and was part of the Canadian team to participate in the first IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship in 1990.

James was also one of the first three women inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008 and one of the first two inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010. She was also inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
