This is such a heartwarming story. 75 year old Carsten Flemming Hansen was spending his final days in a Danish hospital after being admitted with an aortic aneurysm and internal bleeding. When staff discovered that Carsten only had days, if not hours, left to live, they wanted to make his final moments comfortable. Carsten’s final request was to enjoy a cigarette and a glass of white wine. So what did hospital staff do? Well, usually the rules don’t allow smoking on hospital grounds, but the nurses decided that Hansen’s last wishes were “more important” than the smoking rules, and made an exception for him so he could have a “dignified death”. The incredible staff decided to roll Hansen’s bed out to the balcony just as the sun was setting, and he was able to enjoy his final drink and smoke while watching the city skyline tuck in for the night.

His nurse, Rikke Kvist says:
“It was a very cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Of course there were relatives also affected by the fact he was going to die, and they were sad”

Anddddd….get the tissues. *sigh*
