Changes to the province’s Industrial Conservation Initiative will allow Laurentian University to save around $700,000 per year on their electricity bill.

On July 1st the ICI program expanded so all electricity consumers with an average peak demand over 1 megawatt would be eligible for a bill reduction of up to one third.

Consumers who average monthly peak demand greater than 500 kilowatts but less than 1 megawatt in the manufacturing and greenhouse sector are also eligible.

Interim President Designate at LU, Pierre Zundel says it frees up money for upgrades to reduce costs and carbon footprint.

Sudbury MPP and Minister of Energy Glenn Thibeault was at Laurentian University for the announcement this morning.

Places like Cambrian College, Health Sciences North, local mines and bigger greenhouses are eligible for the rebate.
