Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault testified Tuesday at the Sudbury trial revolving around the byelection that saw him elected as Sudbury MPP in 2015.

His testimony will spill over into tomorrow.

Premier Kathleen Wynne’s former deputy chief of staff Pat Sorbara and Gerry Lougheed are charged under the Election Act with bribery.

The Crown is attempting to set a timeline that Thibeault and Sorbara had discussions about promises like income replacement and jobs for staff before Thibeault was the Liberal candidate.

But Thibeault said on the stand that nothing was promised to him and he didn’t receive income replacement until well after he was appointed, and his former NDP staffers, Brian Band and Darryl Marsh worked on his campaign as volunteers.

They eventually were hired on.

Thibeault is not charged with any offences and has denied he sought anything that would be seen as a bribe in exchange for running, but one charge against Sorbara is for allegedly offering Thibeault a bribe to come to the Liberals.
