Hey! I’m Shannon King from KiSS Mornings and I can actually say that I WON THE LOTTERY!

Let me take you back to the craziest day of my life. I bought a Lotto Max ticket on Friday after work at the Mac’s Convenience store in the Montrose Mall on Lasalle Blvd. I didn’t plan to buy the ticket, I just decided last minute, “why not?!”. Sometimes I like to treat myself and get the Max, 649 or the Daily Grand. I always choose the ‘Quick Pick’ with ‘Encore’.

The day after buying the Lotto Max ticket, I was finishing running errands and on the way home I decided to stop at the same store to stock up on some Redbull that was on sale. (Don’t judge! I wake up at 3am every morning. And yes, I know it’s bad for me.)

Okay, back to the story.

So, I wasn’t even paying attention when the cashier scanned my ticket. I remember my head was down, looking in my wallet for my debit card. I’m used to hearing the familiar “no winner” sound or the “winner gagnon” sound. The most I’ve ever won prior to this was maybe $10 bucks.

But this sound was different. This sound caught my attention. The screen suddenly lit up with “BIG WINNER” and the cashier looked at me with wide eyes and said, “Okay, you are a BIG winner and I’ve never seen this happen before!”.

Honestly? I wasn’t processing what she was saying at all. I remember asking her if the machine was broken and kept insisting that this must be a mistake. “No, this is not a mistake. You just won a lot of money and OLG will be calling the store any minute now!”

WHAT?!

Until then, we had NO idea HOW MUCH money I won. Other people in the store started crowding around me (sorry for holding any of you up). I was pacing and all of my belongings were sprawled out on the cash desk. Shout-out to a nice guy named Kyle who offered to film the whole thing for me.

It must not have been longer than five minutes before the phone rang, but those five minutes were the longest of my life. I honestly couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Did I just become a millionaire? Did I win the $32 million dollar jackpot? No.

No, I didn’t win millions. If I did, I’d probably be laying on a beach in Fiji right now. Either way, I won a large sum of money that will definitely relieve some financial burden.

I can pay off my debt, bills, put money away and hey – maybe I’ll even just treat myself to another lottery ticket.

I was one number away from winning $32 million dollars. Crazy, eh? If I had the bonus number, I would have won something like $172,000. Only me and 66 other Canadians won the $5,470.10 payout.

You might roll your eyes at this but on the full unedited video, there’s a moment where I say how relieved I am that I DIDN’T win millions. You’re probably thinking, “what are you, out of your mind? Who doesn’t want to win that much money?!”.

Well, of course, I want to win $32 million but having that kind of money scares me a bit. It can change a person and the people around you, among other things. All I know is, the amount of money I did win is enough. It’s enough for me at this point in my life and I believe there’s a reason why I didn’t win the jackpot. Obviously, I wasn’t supposed to. I mean, I don’t really need it – does anyone need $32 million dollars? That’s an obscene number!

If I had won the jackpot, I certainly wouldn’t change anything for a while. My first step would be to speak with a financial adviser and maintain my normal routine until I could best decide how to evenly distribute the wealth to the people I love and the causes I care most about.

Have YOU or someone you know ever won something big?! I’d love to hear your story!
