Sudbury Police have called in additional resources and Sudbury Hydro says it could be until morning before power is restored in some areas.

The most affected area is spread across New Sudbury and parts Notre Dame.

Many streets in New Sudbury are currently closed as is the curb lane on parts of Lasalle.

Sudbury Hydro is dealing with fires and emergencies first then will work their way around.

We spoke with Ryan Rozinskis from Environment Canada after many people were talking about it perhaps being a tornado.

Rozinskis says the storm started near Elliot Lake and grew as it came towards Sudbury.

Sudbury Hydro is once again warning the public to stay away from downed lines.

There are reports of people cleaning debris near them and contact with a downed line is very dangerous and is even fatal.
