The N-D-P Health Critic wants to see more oversight with health sector organizations that get funding from the province.

France Gelinas, the MPP for Nickel Belt will up at Queen’s Park this afternoon for second reading of Bill 78 he Transparent and Accountable Health Care Act.

She says the private members bill extends legislation that already exists…it just goes one step further.

The bill would mainly expand the oversight of the Ombudsman, the Auditor General for those agencies which get government funding over $100,000

The Act would also expand the details of the Sunshine List, to all major health organizations, mandating publication of the salaries of all employees earning over $100,000 per year.

Gelinas says the bill would also keep watch for those health services the provinces may privatize.

She used scandals like the privatization of Ornge and diluted chemo treatments, as examples of when problems surfaced with no accountability or oversight.

The bill is supported by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario and the Ontario Health Coalition.
