The city has chosen its community torchbearer for when the flame for the Pan Am Games travels through in June.

The torch relay will begin out west May 30th, travel 41-days then the flame will light the cauldron during the opening ceremonies in downtown Toronto, July 10th.

When the relay gets to Sudbury on June 2nd, Bob Rogers will carry the torch through the city as our community torchbearer.

Rogers has been heavily involved with the local Healthy Community movement for 20 years.

He has been involved in sporting activity for more than 35 years and was the Chef de Mission for Canada’s Olympic Team in 1998 for the Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.

Each of the 3,000 torch-bearers from 130 Canadian communities will run or walk 200-metres before passing the flame on to the next person.
