This is Paramedic Week…a chance to highlight the good work done on a daily basis.

It allows the public to understand the skill involved and the changing role paramedics play in the community.

The Chief of Fire and Paramedic Services Trevor Bain says the work is always evolving which recently has included the introduction of a community paramedicine program which sees trained staff provide more detailed care in the home.

Local paramedics respond to 30,000 calls a year in which around 19,000 require a patient be transferred to the hospital.
