Sudbury Police were forced to shoot a bear in the area of Camp Sudaca near Laurentian University.

A complaint was made yesterday afternoon by camp staff about the mother bear and her three cubs who had found a food source in the area.

At the time, 90 kids were taking part in activities at the camp.

While they were in a safe area, police and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry staff felt there was a risk to public safety.

It’s believed the bear that was shot was the same one that was reported to be aggressive earlier in the week.

The MNR was able to catch two of the cubs and transfer them to a wildlife refuge, while a trap was set for the third.
