The poor economy, high electricity bills, rent increases and not enough work hours.

These are all reasons behind why there are more households registered with the Salvation Army in Sudbury this Christmas.

This week registered clients are picking up food and toys so their families can have a better holiday.

Most of the toys donated came in through donations to the annual TD Toy Drive or the Teddy Bear Toss at the Sudbury Arena.

Community Ministries Coordinator, Caroline Lewis says there was a huge need this Christmas.

She says there are 930 households registered with them, including 500 that have at least one child or more.

Clients are visiting the Salvation Army location this week to collect their turkey, food for Christmas dinner and toys for their children.

The parents choose one main toy, a stuffed animal, stocking stuffers and one clothing item for each of their children.

Lewis says despite the large client list, the community has responded in equal generosity to fill that need.

She says every time she put out a call for certain items, the community responded quickly with donations.
