The Ontario government is investing over $16-million towards one-thousand supportive housing units across the province.

Across Sudbury and and Northeast, that translates into 40 units this year and 16 more next year.

The investment comes from a recommendation by several mental health and addictions sources, which say housing with supports like counselling or addictions treatment is critical to help reduce homelessness.

There is also provincial money for ten indigenous organizations to understanding mental health challenges for indigenous people.
