Health Unit

As we mark the upcoming holiday season with celebrations among our family and friends, the Sudbury & District Health Unit is reminding us to keep from spreading more than just yuletide cheer.

There is currently an increase in the number of cases of Norovirus, in long term care homes, daycares and elsewhere throughout the Sudbury community.

The contagious, gastrointestinal illness, also called Norwalk, spreads from person-to-person through contact or contamination of food.

Health officials say the best way to avoid getting sick is to wash hands thoroughly.

If you are sick, stay away from vulnerable populations like the elderly or young children.

Symptoms of Norovirus include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pai, headaches, body aches and fever…which can manifest between 24-48 hours after exposure.
