Festive RIDE Checkpoint with police
Festive RIDE Checkpoint with police

New Year’s Eve was a busy night for Greater Sudbury Police, particularly the Traffic Management Unit.

Extra officers were on patrol, including those helping with three separate RIDE checks set up at Second Avenue/Falconbridge Road, Paris/Brady Street and Elm Street.

Over 530 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoints.

Four drivers required roadside screenings.

Police caught one stunt driver and one suspended driver, and issued a three-day license suspension for one driver who blew over the legal limit.

For the most part, the night went smoothly on area roads.

Police say most people ringing in the New Year found alternate ways home instead of drinking and driving.

The festive RIDE initiative for Greater Sudbury Police Service is a five-week campaign which runs throughout the holiday season and wraps up in the early morning hours of New Years Day.
