The decision by Laurentian University to close it’s Barrie campus by May 2019 has upset some students.

A sit-in is being held today at the offices in Barrie to demand all students be allowed to complete their four year degrees.

Executive Director of student management at L-U Chris Mercer says of the 700 students in Barrie, 500 should be able to graduate on time while steps are being taken to help the remaining 200 students finish their studies either on line or at the Sudbury campus.

Mercer says they had to make a decision after the provincial government decided last year not to fund L-U’s plans for major expansion in Barrie.
