Legion donates

The Dr. Fred Starr Branch 76 of the Royal Canadian Legion couldn’t think of a better use of money raised from their annual poppy campaign than to give it back to the community.

The majority of the poppy campaign fund is held in trust to assist veterens, but Jim Young and the members of Branch 76 announced a 20 thousand dollar donation to the Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scan Fund.

Young says it will benefit both young and old in the community.

The provincial government announced in 2015, they would cover annual costs of a permanent positron emission tomography scanner in Sudbury, but the community would need to purchase the machine.

The P.E.T. Scan Fund is over halfway there, sitting at 2.1 million dollars raised of the 4 million dollars needed.
