Yesterday marked the 72nd anniversary of one of the deadliest and most important battles in history…D-Day.

Allied forces stormed the beaches in Normandy, France in what was called “the longest day.”

World War II veteran Wilbert Spencer was part of the Canadian forces who landed on Juno beach on June 6th 1944, and he was at Science North yesterday to share his story.

Spencer helped Canadian forces make it further into German occupied territory than any other allied forces who landed at Normandy.

Spencer also told one story of when he was near the River Orne, where allied forces were attempting to take control of a key bridge in France.

Spencer was on hand for the premier of D-Day: Normandy 1944 3D which is now playing at the IMAX theatre at Science North.
