Greater Sudbury hit by a minor earthquake last night.

Calls started coming into the our newsroom just after 8:30 pm from all across the city.

Some thought it might have been a rock burst caused by local mining activity, but Natural Resources Canada has since confirmed an earthquake hit the area, registering 2.9 on the Richter Scale.

The epicentre was just southwest of the city.

There are no reports of any damage.
