The Sudbury and District Health Unit has begun testing the water quality of 34 area beaches.

Environmental Support Officer Rylan Yade says water samples will be collected and tested on a weekly basis and if the water is found to be above acceptable bacteria levels…the beach will be posted as unsafe for swimming.

If a beach is posted, the health unit then collects daily samples and notifies the public when levels are back to normal.

Swimming in water that has higher levels of bacteria could result in skin infections or gastro-intestinal illnesses.
