Residents will soon see the results of a modernization plan by the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The Community Safety Personnel program is the first of it’s kind in Ontario and is designed to free up front-line officers from work that can be done by civilians.

Chief Paul Pedersen says he’s very excited about the new Road Watch program which allows residents to report unsafe drivers along with crime stoppers promotion and a youth safety co-ordinator.

Pedersen says it’s one of six areas that will be covered by the eight civilians who’ve been hired by the force.

Others will help with youth safety, crime prevention and missing or vulnerable persons.
