A heat wave is expected to be with us for at least the next couple of days, so the Health Unit has some tips on how to beat the heat.

Likely the most important is to drink lots of water, avoid going out when the sun is at it’s hottest, avoid heavy meals, rest as much as possible but if you have to go outside to always wear a hat, sunscreen and sun glasses.

A Heat Warning is in effect with temperatures expected to be in the 30’s with the hunmidex closing in on 40 degrees.

Symptoms of heat related illness include rapid breathing, weakness or fainting, headache and confusion and being more tired that usual.

The Health Unit also encourages frequent visits to neighbours, friends, and older family members, especially those who are chronically ill, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated.
