The city is taking over the operation of the animal pound and shelter services on a one year trial period.

A former pet boarding facility in Wahnapitae will be leased for the pilot project to begin on November 1st.

The cost to run the pound and veterinary care has been budgeted at $430,000 with $245,000 for enforcement and an additional $35,000 for a trap-neuter-release program and subsidies for low-income residents.

The pilot project will be re-evaluated next June.
