After plenty of talk, council is going ahead with a new by-law that will limit the number of garbage bags you can put out to the curb.

Starting in October, you will only be allowed to put out two bags of garbage each week with the eventual plan seeing garbage pick-up happening every two weeks by 2021.

The hope is that residents will start using their blue boxes and green carts more to divert waste from the landfills.

There are about 25 years of life left in the city’s landfill sites.

Mayor Brian Bigger doesn’t see it as a reduction in service, but instead an investment in the future.
