For the fist time since October of last year, Sudbury’s unemployment rate is under 8 per cent.

According to Statistics Canada, Sudbury’s jobless rate was at 7.8 per cent for August, down from 8.1 in July and it’s now down almost a full percentage point since May.

However Sudbury is tied with Montreal for the fourth highest unemployment rate among major Canadian cities.

Nationally the unemployment rate rose a percentage point to 7 per cent despite over 26 thousand jobs added across the country.
