From Egypt to Rio De Janeiro to Flin Flon Manitoba and right here in Greater Sudbury, the new crop of doctors to set up practice in Sudbury have both a Canadian and international flare.

The 16 new doctors are divided up between practitioners and specialists, with 10 from Greater Sudbury or Northern Ontario.

Dr. Beatriz Junqueira-Duarte is originally from Rio De Janeiro and specialized in Women’s Imaging in Toronto.

She says she was looking for a hospital setting to begin her practice that would also allow her to pursue women’s imaging.

Junqueira-Duarte says she came to Sudbury and felt it would be a great place to practice medicine and raise her family.

Every year Health Sciences North and the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce work to keep and attract new physicians to Sudbury.

Since 2000 approximately 245 new physicians have started practices in Greater Sudbury.
