Health Sciences North has penned a letter regarding the layoff of hospital laundry staff in Sudbury.

HSN says the decision to switch contractors was not an easy one, but one that would save the hospital 500 thousand dollars and allow them to put that money back into front line care.

The linens will be shipped from Sudbury to Hamilton and back, and they say that cost was factored into the savings.

The letter also says they have supplies on hand for a variety of emergencies including late shipments.

There was no mention of possible employment for the laid off workers.
