Two local police officers will be demoted but allowed to stay with the Greater Sudbury Police Service after pleading guilty in court Monday.

Both Constable Kathryn Howard and Constable Christopher Labreche plead guilty to one count of discreditable conduct, after an investigation revealed the husband and wife submitted false benefit claims for two years.

The hearing was held at Tom Davies Square, Superintendent Gould of the Waterloo Regional Police Service was appointed as the Hearing Officer.

Labreche will be demoted from a First Class Constable to a Fourth Class Constable, while Howard will be demoted from First Class to Second Class.

Police Chief Paul Pedersen said in a release that “he has confidence in the systems of accountability and discipline as outlined in the Police Services Act and that these principles were upheld in the decision.”
