It looks like the speed limit heading to the Valley will be reduced in some places.

Sudbury’s Operations Committee approved speed limit reductions from 80 km per hour to 70 from Yorkshire Drive to St. Mary Boulevard, and to 60 km/hour just south of Yorkshire Drive.

The only one opposed to the changes was Ward 6 Councillor Rene Lapierre who received a petition against the changes.

Two petitions were submitted, one calling for a reduction and the other presented to Lapierre asked to keep it the same.

Roads Director David Shelsted says staff analyzed the petition for a reduction and decided it was needed.

That petition was signed by 37 people.

Lapierre says 37 people don’t reflect the over 15,000 cars that travel that route daily.

City council has final say and will vote next week.
