As we draw closer to the Christmas holidays a lot of people are planning road trips or parties to welcome friends and family.

Health Sciences North has come up with a great “To-Do List” to ensure your time off will be well spent.

If you have to travel –  Always check weather & road conditions before you head out by call 5-11 or go to 5-11.ca.  Remember conditions can change suddenly, especially on highways.

If you’re planning some outdoor fun – Always wear proper clothing and footwear for the conditions.

As you put your holiday meals – Wash your hands properly before handling food and use a meat thermometer to be sure that meat is cooked to the proper internal temperature.

And for any celebrating – Drink responsibly. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit or call Operation Red Nose (705-675-NOSE 6673) if you’re planning to consume alcohol while away from home.

A great reminder for the holidays is – Ensure your prescriptions are refilled before your physician’s office closes for the holidays

If you are feeling under the weather, going to the E-R is one option but there are others like visiting your family doctor, a nearby walk-in clinics and pharmacies.

Telehealth Ontario is also available over the holiday season, at 1-866-797-0000
