Over 550 thousand dollars was donated to the United Way Sudbury and Nipissing District from Vale and United Steelworkers Local 6500.

The two held a joint announcement as the donations come from employees who raised the money throughout 2016.

VP of Ontario and UK Operations of Vale, Stuart Harshaw says the workers are a part of the community so its important to give back.

Executive Director of the local United Way, Michael Cullen says the funds are essential for programs in the community and will also allow them to start some brand new programs which they will announce in the coming weeks.

The Steelworkers and Vale started raising money for the United Way in 1982 and since then 17.5 million dollars has been donated.
