PETA Boycotts "A Dog's Purpose", Ellen DeGeneres Makes History & Who Will Voice Poop Emoji in Movie?

PETA has called for a boycott of the upcoming film A Dog’s Purpose after video surfaced on Wednesday that appears to show a German Shepherd being treated inhumanely on set. “PETA is calling on dog lovers to boycott the film in order to send the message that dogs and other animals should be treated humanely, not as movie props,” the organization said in a statement. The footage shared by TMZ appears to show filmmakers forcing the dog into rushing water against its will. Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures have since responded to the clip, noting, “Fostering a safe environment and ensuring the ethical treatment of our animal actors was of the utmost importance to those involved in making this film and we will look into the circumstances surrounding this video.” A Dog’s Purpose is due out January 27.

• Ellen DeGeneres made history at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night by becoming the most-decorated winner in the show’s history. Ellen brought her total award count to 20 by being recognized as Favorite Daytime TV Host and Favorite Animated Movie Voice for Finding Dory.

  The animated flick was also recognized as the Favorite Movie. Additionally, the night saw Tyler Perry being recognized for his humanitarian efforts and host Joel McHale comparing President-elect Donald Trump to Iron Man. “2016 was a very interesting year,” McHale said during his opening monologue. “We all watched as a longtime government insider squared off against an egotistical billionaire. I’m speaking, of course, about Captain America: Civil War.” Right.

Patrick Stewart’s 2017 just got a little crappy. NME reports that the X-Men actor has signed on to voice the poop emoji character in the upcoming Emoji Movie. The animated project is being released by Sony Pictures Animation and involves the “secret lives of emojis” trapped in a smartphone. The protagonist of the animated movie is Gene (T.J. Miller), a unique emoji who is capable of facial expressions, but wants to be “normal” like the other emojis. The film will also feature the vocal talents of James Corden, Ilana Glazer, Jennifer Coolidge, and Maya Rudolph.
