It was an interesting Winter season for Sudbury with a mix of warm temperatures and stretches of cold, so what did that mean for the Winter budget.

The city saw a normal amount of snowfall for the season, but the city’s general manager of infrastructure services, Tony Cecutti says they had to use a grader for ice, which is expensive, did mid winter pothole repair which is rare and needed a lot of salt and sand.

Cecutti says he didn’t have the total numbers in yet, but it wouldn’t surprise him if it was an expensive Winter for the city.

Cecutti says despite that he was more than happy with how crews handled the Winter getting roads up and running in faster than normal times after a storm.

As the Winter comes to an end the so called pothole season begins in Sudbury.

Cecutti says it hasn’t been to bad so far but that could change quickly.

The potholes pop up when the weather gets warm and over the next week the forecast is showing temperatures above zero consistently.

Cecutti says because the ground is still frozen and has a lot of moisture they can only do temporary fixes.

He says if residents spot potholes they can call 311 and they will be out into their work order system.
