The Federal government is investing 9.11 million dollars for child and family services for First Nations in Ontario this year.

The Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Carolyn Bennett was in Sudbury talking about the investment and says, this isn’t just giving money to agencies and lawyers.

The 9.11 million dollars will go directly to communities across the province this year to create prevention activities that will help parents access support needed to raise their children in a safe and healthy environment.

Bennett didn’t give a dollar figure to how much of that would come to Northern Ontario but said the money would be broken down community to community.

She says seeing results will mean less children are put into care.

The funds will start to roll out April 1st.
