A male contractor working for Cecchetto and sons was sent to Health Science North yesterday after receiving critical injuries while working at Vale’s Centrals Tailings Area for the clean AER project.

The individual was rushed to HSN with a police escort and is being treated at the hospital’s intensive care unit.

His name has not been released out of respect for the family,

Dave Stefanuto, Vale’s Vice-President of North Atlantic Projects said “Our thoughts are with the family, co-workers and friends of this individual,” said . “We are doing everything we can to support them and to better understand what happened during this incident.”

The Ministry of Labour is leading an investigation with support from company officials, police and the contracted companies involved.

Vale has offered services from its Critical Incident Stress Management Team to the contractors were working in the area and the Vale employees that responded to the scene.
