The federal government has introduced a suite of bills in Parliament to legalize recreational marijuana.

The bills will be scrutinized as Ottawa and the provinces and territories sort out the finer jurisdictional details of issues like distribution and law enforcement.

When the Liberal bills become law, they will make Canada the first G-7 country to legalize marijuana for recreational use nationwide.

One of the bills the Liberals have introduced in Parliament to legalize the recreational marijuana would set 18 as the minimum legal age to buy pot.

The legislation sets out a strict legal framework for the production, sale, distribution and possession of pot, and stipulates that adults can only possess, share and buy up to 30 grams of dried cannabis or its equivalent.

The government says it will take a zero-tolerance approach to drug-impaired driving.
