When Mrs. Johns found out that one of her third grade students was being bullied, she was devastated and knew she couldn’t just stand by and do nothing…she had to do something.

Kinsie Johns found out that one of the sweet, shy girls in her class was being called “space girl’ because she was wearing her hair in a hairstyle commonly referred to as “space buns”.

That same day, Mrs. Johns talked to the student and the two formed a secret plan that would show the rest of the class that “it’s okay to be different.”

The next day, as planned, the teacher shocked her students when she walked into the classroom wearing her hair in “space buns” – identical to the bullied student, who “was beaming when she saw me and the students noticed that our hair looked the same.”

In her Facebook post, Mrs. Johns quotes Dr. Seuss when she says, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out!?”

Kensie says:
“The little point I was trying to make turned into a huge support for my little friend. All the girls in my class are wearing their hair in ‘space buns’ and even some of the boys got involved! They all wanted to support her and we even got some second graders involved!”
