Fun fact: Did you know that Canada is the third most sleep deprived country in the world? That’s right! According to this survey, roughly 1 in 3 Canadians don’t get enough sleep.  Now that’s not very fun, is it?

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

So how can you get a better night’s rest?

It all starts from the moment you wake up and everything you do throughout the day plays a role.

What you eat, when you drink your coffee, and your exercise level are all important factors.

According to Chatelaine, here are a few tips to help you get a better night’s sleep:

  • Eat a high fibre breakfast
  • Don’t drink coffee after 3:00 p.m.
  • Get at least a few hours of exercise in each week
  • Try a 4-7-8 meditation exercise before bedtime (found here)
  • Make plans for the next day, so you wake up with purpose

Bonus: If you’re going to take a short nap, have some caffeine right before so that you don’t oversleep and wake up groggy.

And before you know it, you’ll be waking up like this:
