Four local charities and a innovation project received funds from the Janis Foligno Foundation.

This year the foundation decided to fund an innovation grant done by Dr. Susan Done which will study how the immune system responds to an aggressive form of breast cancer in woman whose tumours spread to other parts of the body(metastasize).

Angie Woodcock with the Canadian Cancer Society says they will match the foundations donation dollar-for-dollar.

Mike Foligno says it’s important for them to give back to charities and causes that were close to his late wife’s heart.

The foundation announced $10,000 for each for Meals on Wheels, The Northern Cancer Foundation and Northern Ontario Families of Children With Cancer, while the Maison McCulloch Hospice got $10,000 over the next three years.
