Former Sudbury Mayor and long time local politician John Rodriguez has passed away at the age of 80.

Known for his colourful personality, Rodriguez spent nearly 20 years as the Nickel Belt MP, before becoming Sudbury’s mayor in 2006.

This was Rodriguez after announcing his retirement from politics following the 2014 mayoral election.

Flags were lowered at Tom Davies Square and books of condolences will be available for the public to sign at Citizen Service Centres.

Rodriguez leaves behind his wife, five sons and numerous grandchildren.
