Three levels of government came together this morning to provide almost $ 100-million dollars in funding for the Greater Sudbury transit system over the next decade.

Sudbury and Nickel Belt M-P’s Paul Lefebvre and Marc Serre said Ottawa is providing $ 39-million dollars while Sudbury MPP and Ontario energy minister Glenn Thibeault says the province is kicking in $33 million which transit officials have already identified uses for.

The city has committed to spend $27-million over the next 10-years to help carry out improvements to the networks, services and vehicles.

Mayor Brian Bigger says the stable funding will allow them to act on city plans knowing they have the money to do so.

Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre says this will change how people in Sudbury live, move and work.

Other communities in Northern Ontario are also getting some funding including Timmins at over $15 million dollars and Espanola at over $50 thousand.

It’s part of the second phase of the Investing In Canada plan which has over $10 billion dollars going out to communities in Ontario.
